vista – Mühlenstube
The drop-in center with an integrated drug consumption room is the second such facility operated by Vista gGmbH in the Mitte district, following the “Birkenstube.”
Providing clean syringes, ensuring that drug use takes place under safe and hygienic conditions, and offering personal counseling are among the many tasks performed by the staff on site. In addition, people who use drugs can wash their clothes, receive medical care, take a shower, eat meals, have a cup of coffee, and receive social work support. The Mühlenstube is funded by the Senate Department for Science, Health, Care, and Equality with state funds, with the goal of reducing mortality among people who use drugs, as well as improving their health and access to support services.
Initially, the Mühlenstube is open Monday and Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and Thursdays and Fridays from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. In the coming months, these hours will be gradually expanded so that, in coordination with the Birkenstube, weekend services will also be ensured in the future. Depending on how the COVID-19 pandemic develops, an expansion of capacity is planned.”
